Did you know that thousands of New Jersey residents can enroll in the
World Trade Center (WTC) Health Registry? The Registry is being developed
by
the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), in
partnership with the federal Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease
Registry (ATSDR), to collect information on people most directly exposed
to the WTC collapse on 9/11/01 and also on those individuals involved in
the rescue, recovery and cleanup efforts. The Registry seeks to track both
the long-term physical and mental health effects of 9/11/01, and we need
your help to get the word out.
New Jersey residents who are invited to enroll in the WTC Registry
include those who:
Ø Were in Lower Manhattan south of Chambers
Street on 9/11/01,
inside or outside of a
building
Ø Helped in the rescue, recovery, and
clean-up efforts anytime
from 9/11/01 - 6/30/02
Over 14,000 people have already signed up for the Registry, but many
more are eligible. DOHMH and the DHSS are asking for your assistance in
helping to encourage the approximately 65,000 people from New Jersey who were in
lower Manhattan on September 11 or who responded to the emergency to
enroll in the Registry.
People who enroll will be asked to complete a 30-minute telephone
interview. Some of the questions asked will include: where they were on
9/11; how long they were in areas with smoke and fumes; and whether they
have had any health problems since. All information will be kept
strictly
confidential. Findings from the Registry will be shared with the public
through quarterly reports.
